The public's fear of crime is a major concern for policymakers, more so if it involves a marked and sudden increase of violent and property crime.

In Malaysia, nightly news programs often begin or end their broadcasts with accounts of violent crimes committed by both locals and foreigners.

Despite the efforts by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP), newspaper reporting shows that the public continues to see crime as one of the most pressing problems in society.

Steps to avoid rape and robbery. 1. Never, ever trust anyone or be too helpful or kind when you’re alone. 2. Trust your gut instinct. Always ask yourself if it would be worth risking your life if you took the shortcut, and got on a dodgy-looking taxi. 3. Make it public that someone knows you are in a taxi.
